Material & Craft Heirachies

Sennett, Korn, Ruskin et al discuss 'craft' usually within terms of woodwork of some kind. Weaving is the only textile craft mentioned in these defining texts. Feminine Craft

The father of our current ideas about what craft is, Ruskin wrote about how women are the embodiment and guardians of nature. Lovelock's Gaia theory is named for the Earth Mother (not father), and Pinkola-Estes' writes about common female archetypes that transcend cultures such as Baba Yaga and the Earth Mother.
